On Dreaming…

I recently visited the Museum of Dreamers exhibit in Milan with a friend. And the experience was eye opening. We went thinking we will get some good photos for the gram, but it was a dreamy affair which really got us thinking...

I can’t reach my phone right now!

Some excerpts from the exhibit below:

  1. The Stage is yours

To achieve your dreams and goals you have to put yourself out there and make your voice heard. Don’t be just a viewer, get on stage, and prepare to become a protagonist of your own story. Remembering that is it never too late!

There are so many days when you just don’t want to take a step towards your future. I see students in my business school doing things that they see others experiencing, failing to chart their own path. Experiencing pettiness, jealousy, and all these pessimistic feelings brought on by seeing others thriving and stepping back because they are too afraid to pick up their shoes and live in their own movie. The world is your playground, start playing.

2. Enjoy Today

Having a clear destination towards your goals is essential but it is also important to enjoy the journey and have fun, because every moment deserves to be lived to the full.

We often times fail to just have fun in our day to day moments, I see professors at school taking things so seriously forgetting to laugh or smile at silly things. People in buses engrossed in their phones, failing to strike a conversation with the person sitting next to you. I remember being on a school bus, sitting in the last row and not wanting to be home because I was having fun being with these random students from school. Being a child it’s easy to have fun, as an adult it can be easier.

3. Believe in Magic

As children fairy tales teach us that with a toucch of magic even the greatest wishes can come true. Step into a special moment of daydreaming and rediscovering that enchanted world where anything is possible.

There have been moments where adults don’t believe things can work out or they can live out the days of struggle, and I have been in that situation so I absolutely understand how it feels. But remember those days when you wanted to live out your lives as Harry Potter or Hermoine Granger or a Little Mermaid, that feeling is priceless and this exhibit showed me that it is possible to feel that way even as an adult.

4. Sparkle More

Never be afraid to shine and show your light on your way to your dreams and in your everyday life. Get on the dance floor, and unleash your personality and express yourself to the rythm of music…only by being yourself you can shine.

I have been told to “focus” and not get “distracted” by every new thing you see. But honestly that’s my personality to pick up a new thing and master it, however long it takes and I have made a promise to let the external voices just fade and follow my passions while I can. I see professionals so engrossed in their daily lives wanting to experience more but too afraid to “take a break”. If you have savings, take a year gap is no big deal! HR professionals recognize the need for time to focus on your personal goals. Give a chance to yourself to be YOURSELF.

5. Never Give up

The biggest obstacle between you and your dream is the fear of failure. Remember not to give up. Don’t give up on your dreams and aspirations, even in the most difficult times. Get into the swing of things and wrestle with your fears and insecurities, loading up with grit and motivation.

Fears are what makes us or breaks us and once we get past the fears, sky is the limit. In one of the exhibits you could literally punch the fears away, I say why not do it in your daily life too?

Of the 15 exhibits, I only talked about 5 of the displays — these are things that we as adults have forgotten to feel, experience, draw upon our lives. Urge you to take a gap year, do something you have had on your bucket list for a while, something that makes you happy, something that you are fearful of. You never know, that “something” is what is standing between you and your next dream.
